movie blog

The other day i watched the movie "The Stanford Prison Experiment" and it was really interesting to me. To study the roles people play in prison situations, a doctor named Zimbardo converted a basement in the Stanford University psychology building into a mock prison. He advertised for students to play the roles of prisoners and guards. 24 male college students were screened for psychological normality and paid $15 per day to take part in the experiment.

This experiment was more than just any usual experiment because it affected the participants in negative ways which wasn't planned. the experiment made the participants feel like they were in a real prison and so this affected their mind and it made them feel like the whole thing was actually real. the experiment got out of hand sooner than expected and so the Dr. had to call the whole experiment off. The Stanford Prison Experiment was supposed to last two weeks but instead it only lasted a surprising six days. The participants didn't have any permanent damage done to them but the experiment still affected them in emotional and mental ways.
